The BRS would like to remind its members
that they need to ensure their UK driving licence has their latest UK postal
address entered on it, or they could be faced with a fine of up to £1000.
Your BRS has also learnt that the UK
Government is considering a new method of renewal next year (2010), which
should make changing detail, more within the time scales that members spend
in the UK.
The Post Office network has been thrown a
lifeline with a multimillion pound contract to hand out driving licences. It is thought the deal, which will run
for five years, could prevent hundreds more vital Post Office branches
closing.
The ‘fast track’ scheme, which will use
the latest technology to identify drivers, will allow customers to have
their photograph taken, applications scanned and signatures captured at up
to 750 local braches from next year.
The application will be completed within
minutes at a special counter, before being sent via a secure link to the
DVLA
The DVLA will then send drivers their new
photocard driving licence for the £17.50 charge within days.
At the moment, applicants have to obtain
a form either from the DVLA or Post Office branches, and send it off with
original documents confirming their identity, a passport-type photograph and
fee.
So watch this space, as we will be
informing our members when the new scheme comes into operation. Our web site
will furnish you with the most up to date information.
