The subject dominating the press
and raising member’s queries has been the ruling of the European Court of
Justice in the Orams case. We are establishing contacts with the new
Government and liaising with Embargoed and The Homebuyers Group.
The statement from the BRS is
printed below.

“The British Residents’ Society has been
monitoring the progress and implications of the Orams case and is mindful of
the seriousness of this European Court of Justice ruling.
This issue requires careful consideration before any firm actions are taken.
This is too important a matter, which we are aware is the cause of great
concern to many expatriate and Turkish Cypriot property owners in the TRNC,
for hasty knee-jerk reactions or well intentioned, but potentially
misleading comment.
The British Residents’ Society is addressing these concerns with urgency,
and has already been in contact with the President’s office and is in the
process of arranging meetings with key TRNC government departments on how
best to deal with these concerns.
We will issue a further statement as soon as we are in a position to give
accurate advice and information.”
