DECLARİNG CASH TO HM REVENUE AND CUSTOMS

As from 15th June 2007 people travelling directly to or from a country outside
the European Union (EU) and carrying 10,000 Euros or more (or equivalent in any
currency this includes bankers drafts and cheques of any kind including
travellers cheques) will be required to declare the cash to HM Revenue and
Customs (HMRC) at the place of departure or arrival in the UK.
Forms on which to make the declaration will be available at ports and airports.
Travellers will be liable to financial penalties if they fail to comply with the
obligation to declare or provide incomplete or incorrect information. There will
be no requirement to declare cash for people travelling to or from another EU
country the TRNC is consider to be outside of the EU.
This measure has been introduced under European Parliament and Council
Regulation No. 1889/2005 to help combat money laundering.
