New Penalty Points For Traffic Offences

DRIVERS PLEASE
BE AWARE
Parliament approved on Monday 3rd of July various changes to the system of
penalty points relating to road traffic offences.
After a driver accumulates 100 points in a fifteen month period a drivers
licence is revoked for 3 months.
SPEEDING
Exceeding the speed limit by less than 20 KPH will be subject to 5 Penalty
Points
Exceeding the speed limit by between 20 and 40 KPH will be subject to 25 Penalty
Points
More serious cases will be subject to court action.
Reckless Driving
Will be subject to 25 Penalty Points
Driving without an MOT
Will be subject to 25 Penalty Points
To protect minors allowing an under five year old to travel in the front seat of
a car results in 25 Penalty Points. And the driver will receive 20 Penalty
Points for allowing an under 10 year old to sit in the front of a car and not
wearing a seat belt.
Members are advised that drink driving limits are lower than the UK and random
checks are common. Police have the authority to revoke the driving licence of
motorists charged with drink driving until their court case is concluded.
