BRS LAUNCH NEW CANCER
PATIENTS REGISTER
At the request of the TRNC
Minister of Health, the British Residents Society (BRS) have this
week announced the establishment of a new expatriate cancer patient
register. The register will be entirely voluntary and jointly
organized by the BRS and the Cancer Association, in association with
the Ministry of Health.
BRS Deputy Chairman Stephen
Day, this week appealed for expatriate cancer sufferers to come
forward with their names, addresses, and details of the treatments
and medications they either receive or require. The register will
eventually be made available to the Minister of Health but will be
otherwise treated in the strictest confidence by the BRS.
Mr. Day said: “The register
is intended to give the TRNC government a clear picture of how many
expatriates are currently diagnosed with cancer and what treatments
and medications are required. This is all part of the government
looking to improve services in the TRNC. The register can only work
if patients are willing to come forward and volunteer the
information. I do hope they will feel able to do so. This whole
initiative has come about at the direct request of the Minister”.
The announcement follows a
very positive meeting held this week at the Ministry of Health.
Present with the Minister were representatives of the BRS and the
Cancer Association. This is the first of a number of BRS health
related initiatives that the society are currently talking to the
government about. The society hopes to be in a position to make
further announcements later.
Anyone willing to
participate in the register should contact BRS Welfare Officer Mrs.
Pru Lundie on 0542 855 1114 or email
