B.R.S.
BLOOD DONOR DAY
September 2009
A record 135 people gave blood at the
donor morning at Dr. Akcicek Hospital on Saturday
morning organised by the British
Residents’ Society. This brought the total of blood donated via
B.R.S. to 313 units so far in 2009.
Thanks go to the Ladies in Red for
their sterling work in raising the awareness of the need for
blood, vital at the end of the Ramadan fast month when the
reserves at the Central Blood Bank are critically low.
Norman and Sandy Hewitt presented
donors with eye catching car stickers, designed by Alison Dowey,
proclaiming “I am a blood donor”
Pat Holmes signed in the donors
while Karen Wenborn collected email addresses for the data base
of now over 400 donors. Shelley Huston kept a watchful eye
over the 11 beds and Lee Mullins and Susie Beauvoir dispensed
reviving cups of coffee or tea and biscuits.
Prue Lundie, who has master minded
the donor days for many years, taking over from the founder Tony
Hutchinson, was thrilled with the good turn out and said
everyone did brilliantly.
The next B.R.S. Blood Donor Day will
be on 24 October at Yeni Erenkoy Klinik.
